10/10 best thing to do for food and drinks in PGH! First time trying bone marrow and was not disappointed in the least. The true show of craftsmanship came from the eclectic drink menu. Highly recommend!

We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at Fig and Ash, and it was nothing short of excellent. My wife is more than just an average home cook, that we hold restaurants to a high standard. We want our dining experience to check at least two of these boxes: excellent food, great service, appealing atmosphere, cleanliness and hygiene, or a unique culinary offering. Fig and Ash checked them all. Ambiance & Atmosphere: Tucked into Pittsburgh’s North Side, the space is thoughtfully designed—small but never cramped. The ambiance was warm and relaxed, with just the right level of buzz. It’s a great setting for date nights or intimate gatherings. Service: Our server, Beth, was phenomenal—attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the menu and the restaurant’s story. One of the owners also made the rounds, stopping by each table to connect with diners and answer any questions, which added a personal and memorable touch. Food & Drinks: The food was a standout. Their seasonal menu keeps things fresh and inventive. • Heirloom Carrots stole the show: vacuum-sealed with garlic, sage, and honey, then fire-grilled and served over honey-whipped ricotta. A perfect blend of sweet, savory, and smoky. • The creamy bone marrow was equally impressive, served with bacon and onion jam, grilled shishito peppers, orange-parsley salad, and grilled bread. Each element stood on its own but elevated the marrow in just the right way. • The short rib & pork belly meatloaf and olive oil cake were solid, though not quite at the same level as the standouts. • Cocktails were balanced and well-crafted—definitely worth ordering. Cleanliness & Layout: The space was impeccably clean, and though the restaurant is on the smaller side, the layout prevents it from feeling tight. Hygienic food handling was clearly a priority, which we always appreciate. Final Thoughts: Fig and Ash exceeded expectations. It’s the kind of place that makes dining out feel worth it. We’ll absolutely be returning—and recommending it to friends. It’s rare to find a restaurant that hits every note, but Fig and Ash does just that.

So if you are familiar with my reviews, we are blessed to travel extensively to amazing places all over the world. Along the way, we are fortunate to dine in terrific properties. This weekend we are in Pittsburgh. We had a free evening and decided to take our son and his wife here for dinner. Nearly 3 hours later, we couldn’t have been happier with the fare, service, or hospitality. Terrific in every way. My bumper sticker for this restaurant is, ‘anything you can do, they can do better’. What I mean by that is if you think of common cuisine offerings like French Onion Soup, duck, carrots, creme brulee...on and on...you have set ideas of how these dishes should be prepared. This chef puts a positive twist on everything we thought we knew about fairly common dishes. Amazing! Thoughtful! Delicious! The homemade pasta dish was unique and delicious. As was the duck, pork chop, romaine salad...everything. Wrap around that amazing service and genuine hospitality. If you are in Pittsburgh, you simply must eat here. Bravo Chef! Bravo!

I cannot say enough good things about my experience last night at Fig & Ash! Earlier this month, I received a life-changing medical diagnosis. While in recovery, I have to strictly avoid a massive list of common food staples for at least 3-6 months. Simple things like black pepper, a number of herbs, carrots, etc can currently land me in the ER/hospital for days, with potential fear for my life. When my friend passed along the menu for their family-style celebratory dinner shortly after my diagnosis, I realized I wouldn’t be able to eat anything on it. My friend relayed my situation to Fig & Ash, and, to my immense surprise and joy, they put together a separate menu just for me!!! I don’t know how the chefs worked their magic with so many limitations, but the food was absolutely divine and the portions were large enough for leftovers. The team never once made me feel like a hassle and they checked in with me throughout the night. Because of this level of care, I was able to participate in my friend’s celebration without sitting on the sidelines & sipping at mocktails. I woke up this morning feeling amazing — so I know without a doubt each course was 100% safe. Thank you, Fig & Ash, for the efforts you made to take care of me! The health journey I have been on has been the most difficult, frightening, and painful experience of my life. I didn’t think I’d be able to go out to eat for a lonnnng time. What you did to include me meant more than I can say. I will remember your kindness forever (and I’ll be back to try the things I had to miss this time around!)

Went with a friend for an impromptu dinner. Cozy atmosphere and a small but delicious menus. We started with the Brussels sprouts. Then, based on our server’s recommendation tried the meatloaf and scallops with risotto. Both were wonderful. Finished with the olive oil cake.

I had a very nice dinner with business colleagues at Fig & Ash. It’s a comfortable establishment, with great cocktails and upscale food. Sophisticated but casual, I would definitely recommend it. I had the glazed carrots, and the short rib/pork meatloaf. Both dishes were delicious and nicely portioned. We shared the chocolate skillet brownie and the olive oil cake, which were both very tasty.

We arrived early and had a drink at the bar before dinner, they have a nice bourbon selection and the bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to move to our table without closing our bar check which some places can't figure out in 2025. The food menu is purposefully small, but it had a good variety and we were pleased with everything we had. Portions are large, my wife and I were able to share, and had leftovers to take home. We will definitely be back.
